What is the RR4 Decanting Clinic?
It is an outpatient clinic run by Plastic Surgeons, Resident Physicians and Physician Assistants. It was created to treat patients with urgent Plastic Surgery concerns, often from trauma.
Why am I being referred to the clinic?
The Plastic & Reconstructive Surgery team can treat people with injuries to the hands and face, such as broken bones, injuries to tendons and nerves, and complex wounds. They also care for people with burns, frostbite, and some infections. Patients age 17 and older can be referred here.
The team will assess you and work with you to develop a care plan. Many procedures can be done the same day in the clinic, using local anesthetic (“freezing”). You can eat and drink; you do not need to fast for your clinic visit. Sometimes, the surgery or procedure will need to be booked for a later date or time.
You may want to bring a book, phone charger, or a snack with you as you wait. Some people find bringing headphones/ear buds or music to play on their phones during their procedure can help.
